The three things for today are
on labels and identity
on which is the best diet
on the 2 best activities for fat loss
on labels and identity
I am an introvert. I am an atheist. These are labels I've assigned to myself based on my beliefs, my philosophies, and what I identify with. Labels are useful and necessary. They are part of our identity, and how we sometimes find community. It helps us find commonalities and explore things together.
In many cases, it has helped me continue understanding myself. In high school and college, I detested going to night clubs but that was what kids my age did. It ranks amongst the most boring things I have subjected myself to multiple times, along with college. I realised that as an introvert, I did not derive energy from those settings and they actually sucked my energy away. I prefer calmer gatherings where I can connect with someone, and also enough alone-time so I can replenish myself. It took me a while to put this together, and it actually took me getting out of my environment to get around to doing this.
But if we use a label to define ourselves, to corral ourselves inside of it, we might lose out. Let's say you subscribe to a school of thought, and everything makes sense and you are in complete agreement with it. And suddenly, something happens that disrupts this. Do we throw the baby out with the bathwater? Do we abandon our affiliation with this school of thought? Or do we just say "I hear you on this? I understand where you are coming from. But I respectfully disagree."
If you feel like reading a post I wrote on this topic, here you go.
on the best diet
For health or fat loss or muscle gain, or whatever our reason is, we need to eat high-quality food. The conundrum is a real one - what should one eat, and what is the best diet out there?
To make matters worse, there are powerful people and corporations against you. The food industry is all-powerful. They want to make more money and they make more money by making you fatter and eating the foods that keep you reaching out for them more and more. By short-circuiting the brain and making it an addiction, the fast-food industry is truly out to get us. And they have been winning for a long time. It is important to acknowledge it. We are in a fight for our lives, and we have to dig deep.
The pharma industry wants to keep selling you pills. They do not want to solve the problem. They want to kinda-sorta solve it and keep it at bay. They want to find the right balance between selling us enough and improving our health and keeping us diseased at the same time.
You need to figure it out for yourself. I am on your side! Whenever you get confused or misled, reach out to me. Or just read the following - if it sounds too good to be true, it is. The key to fat loss or good health, and the best diet, is eating high quality, real food.
If you want to read more about this, you can read it over here.
on the 2 best activities for fat loss
Activity is a useful add-on to help us get past plateaus, accelerate the fat loss, and that's because we can improve our metabolism along the way with smart activity. By ensuring we build muscle, and learn to turn the furnace on to burn fat, we can achieve solid results. So, if we were to pick 2 things to do, what should they be?
Pick something you suck at! That's it. It is that simple. And when you get reasonably good at it, find something else. Remember, the goal is not to master that skill. The goal is fat loss.
The second is walking. Dismiss it at your peril!
And that's a wrap! Have a great Sunday and a great week ahead.
